Importance Of The Internet

The internet has made such a difference to so many lives; it’s difficult to really sum up the true importance of the internet.

The impact that the Internet has had on society is huge, but it’s a bit like having a car, once you’ve got it you can’t live without it, but if you’ve never learned to drive, what the hell? Who needs it? A seventeen year old girl actually told me the other day ‘I’ve had to wean myself off Facebook and that other stuff because I was just too addicted and didn’t do anything else’. Now that’s pretty scary. At least she noticed, plenty of other people don’t know before it’s too late! It just goes to worsen the age old teenage affliction, they forget how to speak; now they not only don’t speak to their parents (perish the thought) and other adults, they don’t even speak to each other, except in code – LOL.

Importance of the Internet for Business

Okay, rant over, let’s look at the real importance of the internet. It certainly has made a huge impact in the business world and information standards. A good, visible, web presence is now one of the single most important aspects of running a successful business. People have just got used to finding stuff out at the push of a button, and can’t be bothered any more with trailing around the hardware stores to see who has the best offer on barbecues! Only after they’ve searched the internet, found a good website with a good selection at a good price, hit the ‘location’ button and printed out directions to enter into their GPS system will they actually step outside and visit the store, or better still, order online! No wonder we’re all having trouble with ‘spread-ass syndrome’ (or is that just me?)

Importance of the Internet for Children

Of course, the ‘information highway’ has also some real benefits for children, apart from saving their parents a small fortune on buying games for games consoles, they can play online for free! They can also find out lots of useful information, (who played ‘Joey’ in friends?) – no, for their homework! The internet has opened up a whole new world of knowledge, information and adventure and given many children the opportunity to learn about everything from Alaskan sea mammals to the colors of the national flag of Zimbabwe. Many schools utilize the internet for lessons of all subjects, and what was once classed as a luxury, became a novelty, is now a necessity to many teachers.

Importance of the Internet for All

Many adults have now lost the ability to find, learn or know anything, without being ably assisted by a search engine. Every year, more and more people even do their Christmas shopping online, beat the lines, send them direct, you don’t even have to wrap or pay for postage. Remember, it’s the thought that counts, oh yes, you thought it would be easier to spend five minutes on the internet than actually drive to town, brave the crowds, choose a gift, wrap it, take it to the post office and send it in person – I see what the thought did!

Forgot your Mum’s birthday? Don’t worry, send an E-card, it’ll be there instantly and won’t cost you a dime!

Good Old Internet – It’s Not That Old!

Seriously though, the internet has made an enormous impact on our lives, much of it for the better. It has enabled many people to earn a living from home, opened up a whole new world to many people who are house-bound, and opened up World Trade at the push of a button. It’s difficult to imagine a world without the internet now; it’s only been with us (en masse) for a few years, but boy we’d have trouble living without it. We wouldn’t even know what the weather was going to do, oh yes, we’d have to look out of the window!
