Internet has made life easier for everyone, be it a student or a career oriented person. a person can now access limitless information and news of their choice just at the simple click of a button. The Internet Addiction

A few decades back, when the internet was not so popular, getting some minor information used to be among the most difficult tasks in the world. It was usual for people to phone all their contacts till they got the information they wanted. Sometimes people would even wait several days till they could personally visit those who they believed could provide them the information, and then after a bit of other small talk, try to get the information they wanted.

Getting information seemed to be an important activity, and this gave all kinds of people a feeling of self-importance knowing that they had some information which people might need. This probably made people contact each other a lot more often, in addition to the mere needs of socializing. Since people of all ages and backgrounds need all kinds of information, this need made society a more closely held group of people who were always interacting with each other for the purpose of either seeking information, or providing information.

The internet has changed all that. Now people do not need to ask anyone for any information. The search engine has replaced vast segments of society who were providers of information till yesterday. This has probably resulted in fewer phone calls, less fuel being burnt to zip across town in the car to get that information, and less time wasted in socializing in the real world for the purpose of seeking information. People simply need to access the internet through their computers, get to the search engine, and feed in their keywords – and all the information they could possibly need is just a click away.

The internet has thus not only provided a life-changing experience for people, but has also altered the manner in which society functions as a whole at a broad level. People who realize the power of the internet are often accused of having become social recluses and internet addicts. The addiction is understandable, since only the internet can fulfill their needs, not only for information, but also for socializing which is a lot easier now.

Accessing the Internet Wirelessly

If you own a laptop computer, you probably love the convenience of being able to use it all around your home and also being able to take it to work. It can be so helpful to do your work from the dinner table, pay your bills in bed, and do research in the commercial breaks of your favorite television show. You may even enjoy being able to play games on your computer during your lunch break, or while relaxing on the couch.

But, one of the benefits of a laptop computer that many people overlook is the ability to truly work on the go. This is possible now, more than ever, with the prevalence of WiFi hotspots around the community.

While the expectation is that you can access the internet at libraries, coffee shops and maybe at schools, there are WiFi hotspots available at places you may not have even considered. One of my favorite little watering holes offers free WiFi. I love being able to bring my computer down and follow my favorite sports team while enjoying a drink with my friends. It’s also nice to be able to go down and have a nice meal at lunch and do some of my work in a more comfortable environment than a stuffy coffee shop.

No matter where you choose to access the internet using a WiFi hotspot, you are sure to appreciate this added benefit of owning a laptop computer. If you don’t know how to connect to a wireless internet connection, make sure you check with your computer’s manufacturer to find out the steps. In my case it is very simple and involves only a few mouse clicks. Sometimes you may need a password, check with the owner or manager of the location you are trying to access and they will likely be able to provide you with the information you need.

Advancing Internet Technology

The internet has been a major part of our lives for around 15 years now. Before then, it had been around in some form since the 1960’s, but it really never entered our homes or our lives until the mid 1990’s. In the early days, the internet was frustrating; however, we all saw the benefits this new technology could offer us and embraced it anyhow.

When the internet first started gaining popularity, the only type of internet connection available was a dial-up connection. This took about 5 minutes to even connect to the provider and even then it tied up your phone line while you were using the internet.

Once you were finally online, the frustration didn’t end there. The dial up connection was slow. If you tried to go to a web page that had many graphics, pictures or even lots of data it could take a long time to load the full page. Playing games online was also very difficult. Games like we experience today with multiple players and graphic intensive layouts would be all but impossible to have played in the mid 1990s.

By the time 2000 arrived we were ready for something else, and that is when DSL and cable internet started becoming popular. These means of connecting to the internet didn’t tie up your phone line and would allow the user to surf the web at many times the speed that a dial up connection provided.

Once a high speed connection became the norm, the internet really became what it is today. In many homes there is at least one person browsing online, playing games, or visiting a social network at any given time. The internet is used by adults and children alike for work and play. We can now even access the internet in the palm of our hand with the newest smart phones; now that is something that would have amazed up back in the dial up days.

Laptops were once bulky devices that could barely be deemed “portable.” But then again, desktops once took up entire rooms. Every aspect of computers and the Internet is becoming smaller, more mobile, and easier to handle. Computers are also a great way to watch movies. Most computers have DVD drives for watching movies. Instead of buying a player for your television, you can take watch movies anywhere you have your computer.

If you are a gaming kind of person, you can buy computer games and play them at home. You can even take things one step farther and set your gaming system up on the internet. Popular systems such as the PlayStation can be added to an internet network. You can then play video games on your system against other players from anywhere in the world.

If you are one of the few that does not own a personal computer, you can still enjoy the internet. Many public libraries have several computers and internet access. You can go online from one of the library computers to browse the web or type documents. The internet is available almost everywhere as long as you have a computer or cell phone to gain access.

Owning a computer and having internet access means that you have access to the world. There is so much you can do right from your computer. The technology that drives computers and the internet is amazing. Most people do not stop to think about what is happening inside their computer. They have no idea how information is transferred from one spot to the next. Most people just appreciate the convenience that computers and internet bring into their lives.

Convenience is putting it mildly; computers and the internet make it possible to communicate with anyone in the world. You can go shopping at any website in any country with your computer. You can earn money from home with a computer. Many people make their living by writing blogs and selling products online. They never have to leave their home or commute to work.

The internet is a way for people to find each other. New friends are made through chat rooms and dating sites. Old friends are found through social sites. The internet allows people to continue their education. People earn entire degrees right from home. All of the course work is done on a computer and sent to the instructor. This makes it possible for those that have to work regular jobs to still get an education and support themselves.

Experts are not done finding ways to make life easier and better. From chatting to shopping to working to paying bills, the internet and computers are a part of everyday life. The internet will continue to have a daily effect on people’s lives for a long time. As long as there is room for growth and change, the technology will continue to grow and change. With the growth and change, people can expect even greater things to happen. The convenience of the internet makes all things possible.
