The Amazing Technology Known as the Internet

One of the most amazing leaps of technology is the internet. With the internet, you can do anything you want, go any place in the world and be whomever you choose. All of this is done in a virtual world, of course. The internet has made it possible for people from the farthest corners of the world to connect. You can use the internet to buy products from different countries and never have to leave the comfort of home. The power of the internet has allowed people and businesses to grow quickly and efficiently.

For some, a computer is just a machine that lets them play games, listen to music and store photos. For others, a computer is the source of their livelihood. Millions of people make their living utilizing computers and the internet. Practically every business, small and large, has a website. Businesses know the importance that consumers place on ease of access. With a website, a business can sell products and make profits without ever coming face to face with a customer. Customers can buy anything they want without ever having to fight crowds, traffic or even get out of the pajamas.

The internet has opened up a whole, new, virtual world for society. Mobile phones even have their own mini-browsers because mobile phone manufacturers saw the need and fulfilled it. Now, business transactions can be done from the palm of your hand. Smart phones are practically a computer, capable of doing almost everything a laptop or PC can do. The potential for improvement is limitless. Information technology is constantly growing, changing and getting better.

As time pushes forward, you can expect technology to continue to grow. Cell phones will become more advanced. PCs and laptops will be faster, more secure and have growing amounts of storage in the smallest form possible. The world is evolving into a technological society and the benefits are astounding.

Differences and Standards in Computers

Millions of people own home computers. Some people have desktops computers, others have laptops and some have netbooks. The size, speed and operating systems of these computers vary from home to home. Some people rush out and buy the latest computer with the latest software. Others are more than satisfied with their dated operating system and bulkier PC. Despite all of the differences that computers have, there is one thing they have in common.

Structured information standards are the standards that all computers use for communication. These standards make it possible for computers of any size, speed, and operating system to “talk” to each other. It does not matter where the computer is located; the language of all computers is the same. Without structured information standards, it would be next to impossible to communicate between different computers. This would lead to a breakdown in the technological advancements that computers and the internet have provided.

Computers are incredible machines that operate in ways most people cannot understand. The average person does not need to know how it works, only that it works when it is turned on. The technology hidden inside the computer is amazing compared to computers of earlier years. At one time, a single computer was as large as an entire wall. Today, computers keep getting smaller, faster and more advanced with each passing day. With all of the changes being made, the structured information standards still stand firm. Computers must adhere to these universal standards in order to communicate.

If you have ever wondered how your computer “talks” to the server or the computer on the other end of the website you are browsing, now you know. You can compare structured information standards to the universal language of love. Every person understands the feeling of love. Computers understand the information standards. For computers, there are no emotions (not yet, but technology is still evolving) but there are standard pieces of information that never change.

The Changes in Computer Styles

Accessing the internet can be accomplished from a personal computer or a cellular phone. The use of computers is probably the most common way to get online, although using cell phones, especially smart phones, is quickly rising in popularity. But even the best cell phone has yet to fully compete with the technology contained in a computer. Personal computers for the desktop and your lap are, by far, the best and easiest way to use the internet.

Desktop computers used to be big and bulky. Large towers housing the hard drive and other hardware took up a lot of space. The monitor was as large as a small television. To have room for one of these older computers, you had to have an entire desktop. Technology has improved and towers are smaller. They can be stored under your desk, out of the way. Monitors are flat and only a few inches thick. The quality of the display is also much better as plasma monitors have become popular. Improvements keep coming and today, you can get a touchscreen monitor. With one of these, you can simply touch the screen with your fingertip or a pointer to perform tasks.

Laptop computers have also come a long way. Once, laptops were quite heavy and bulky. They were nice to have, but not very convenient. Today, laptops are sleek and thin. Displays are large and crisp, but the weight is minimal. In fact, the thinner and lighter the laptop, the better response from the public. Netbooks have also made their way on to the market. Netbooks are a smaller version of a laptop. They normally do not have CD-ROM drives, but consumers can easily buy an external drive.

As time marches on, it will be interesting to see the changes coming in the design of computers. If history is an indicator of things to come, computers will continue to get more compact, fast and convenient.
